I would like to help protecting the Red Sea by joining eco-projects during my holiday.

2010 Marine Biology Workshop

As plankton season started we have had our first sightings of Mantas in Elphinstone. Diving with these graceful giants is a truly magical experience and a testament to the richness and diversity of the Red Sea.

One of the ways in which RSDS promotes awareness about this eco-system is through a Marine Biology Workshop that is conducted by RSDS Marine Biologist Stephan Moldzio.

The course involves diving /snorkeling in Marsa Shagra and collecting samples of micro fauna living on reefrock, in the sand or plankton. This is followed by investigations through a stereomicroscope. We work as a team unit and apply some fun scientific methods. Everybody contributes to the common results and there are lectures and movies in the evening about various topics relating to coral reefs.

The focus of the workshop is coral reef ecology: mechanisms of reef building & erosion, structure and zonation, functional groups, food web, threats to coral reefs and preservation.

Please support our efforts and participate in this workshop which will be held on:

September 30 - Oct. 3, 2010 Marsa Shagra

Rate: 250 Euro
