Reef Check Update 2010
It’s been just over a year since our team of 6 first launched our Reef Check monitoring program for the southern Red Sea. Our team has now grown into 12 Eco-divers and we are actively monitoring 10 dive sites in the south.
The data we are collecting is an important basis for further scientific publications like the report “Status of Coral Reefs of the World 2008.“
Stephan Moldzio, REEF CHECK Team Scientist & Eco-Diver Trainer has been leading this effort, as well as many other projects in collaboration with the RSDS team. His dedication has been the guiding force in this whole project and we would like to recognize his continued efforts and support.
We hope that through these efforts we will be able to safeguard the reefs in southern Egypt from similar development of mass tourism and reef destruction/degradation in some other regions of Egypt.
